In this video, we meet up with Torben Trojaner Frandsen, a Danish historian, for a walking tour of Copenhagen at Christmas. Along the way, we discuss the history of Christmas in Denmark aka Jul i Danmark.
Torben is full of interesting stories on the lives of Danes in the early Christian era and the pre-Christian era when Jul came to Denmark. We also discuss the centuries of Christmas traditions in Denmark including the "kinky Christmas" games and parties that were played by Danish people in the old days. Some of these are still seen today in Danish slang.
We talk about how Christmas trees first came to Denmark later during the tour and a funny misunderstanding about the famous Danish Christmas song written by Peter Farber.
The history of Christmas in Denmark is vast and interesting. We are so happy to have learned more about it in this video.
