In the sixties, the genre of fantasy soaps was just taking off, and Bewitched was perhaps the flag bearer of that growth. The show had a very peculiar premise – it was about a witch who married an ordinary mortal man and vows to lead the life of an ordinary suburban housewife.

The show was very popular at the time and even finished as the second rated show in the country during its debut season.

One of the reasons why the show was immensely successful was because of its extraordinarily talented cast. It had the extremely talented Elizabeth Montgomery who played the witch, and the amazing Dick York as her husband.

However, in the sixth season of the show, something unexpected happened. Dick York was replaced by Dick Sargent who played the same character York played. While a lot of people wondered about the coincidence of both men having the same first name, many more wondered about the reason for the change.

The astonishing thing about the change was that the show's creators said nothing about it. The season just started with Dick Sargent in place of Dick York and everybody went along with it like it was normal.
