In our opinion, Sintra is an absolute must-do. If you have time to do a day trip from Lisbon go to Sintra, you will love it. We managed to see the magnificent Pena Palace and Park.
This video shows you how to get to Sintra from Lisbon and around the spectacular palace, including the chapel, the palace's interior, and the park. Hopefully, this video gives you a glimpse into this Disney-like palace.
Pena Palace is known for its colourful terraces, decorative battlements and statues of mythological creatures, that cannot be missed.
In 1995 Pena Palace, Sintra was classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO, and listed among one of the seven wonders of Portugal.
To begin your day trip to Sintra, you will need to start at Rossio Train Station in Rossio Square. It is here where you can get the train to Sintra or other trips outside of Lisbon.
Travelling from Lisbon to Sintra is easy and affordable, and there are frequent trains from Rossio Train station directly to Sintra. The journey takes only 40 minutes.
Once you arrive at Sintra Train station, you have three options to get to Pena Palace:
1). You can walk from Sintra train station to Pena Palace, which is 50 minutes or even longer steep uphill hike.
2) Get a taxi or
3) Board the 434 - Hop on and Hop off the bus as we did.
