Are you looking to correct the bump steer on your 65-89 early 911 series car or 914? Elephant Racing has you covered with our Racing Bump steer kits. Bump steer is defined as a toe change in response to vertical wheel displacement. In simple terms, bump steer is when the car steers itself in reaction to the suspension compressing, say going over a bump. It is not a good thing. A car that bump-steers requires constant steering inputs by the driver to maintain a steady trajectory over uneven surfaces, making the car a handful to drive.
Bump steer becomes more severe with lowered ride height and gets extreme with spindle height modifications. It’s easily corrected by spacing the end of the tie rod down. The correct spacing depends on ride height and spindle height, fortunately for you, we make all of our bump steer kits adjustable.
This correction works well when the spacer is fairly short, but sometimes a long spacer is required to resolve the bump steer condition such as when the spindle height is raised. But when a long spacer is used to resolve the bump steer a new problem is introduced. Steering knuckle flex causing toe steer.
The long spacer acts as a lever to twist the steering knuckle. Beyond the obvious issue of strength, any twisting of the steering knuckle causes toe steer, and a required correction at the steering wheel to maintain a steady trajectory.
Elephant Racings Racing Bump Steer Kit is our top-performing bump steer solution; it's super strong and provides the sharpest, most predictable steering response. It eliminates steering knuckle twist induced toe steer and can be used on raised spindles of any height. Holds tie rod ends between two steering knuckles to eliminate knuckle flex regardless of bump steer spacer length.
Long bump steer spacers (required with raised spindles) place bending loads that twist stock steering knuckles. Twist causes undesired toe steer. A second steering knuckle is welded to the strut body. You can optionally have us perform the welding for you.
The Racing Bump Steer kit allows massive bump steer adjustment range in fine increments. Double shear mounting provides solid support for even the longest bump steer spacing. Weather sealed precision rods ends included work with regular turbo tie rods. Included boots to seal out dirt and water for extended product life. Our purpose-made rod ends are extra long to ensure proper threaded engagement with standard turbo tie rods.
Available for 65-89 911, 912, 930 and 914s, Kits are available for 19mm, 30mm and 40mm spindle height. Kits are easily modified for use with essentially any spindle height.
