Ein Studentenlied, Nr. 649 (Seite 587) im Allgemeines Deutsches Kommersbuch. Der Text basiert auf einem Gedicht von Christian Ludwig Noack (1767-1821), das dieser 1789, im Jahr der französischen Revolution, schrieb. Die Melodie gehörte ursprünglich zu dem patriotischen Lied „Dem deutschen Mann - Den Mann den halt ich ehrenwert“ von Johann Daniel Symanski von 1817. Text und Melodie wurden 1827 erstmals gemeinsam gedruckt. Das Lied wurde vielfach nachgedichtet und parodiert. Es befindet sich auch im Repertoire vieler deutscher Folkbands und Mittelaltergruppen.

A German student fraternity song. The lyrics are based on a poem by Christian Ludwig Noack (1767-1821), which he wrote in 1789, the year of the French Revolution. The melody originally belonged to the patriotic song "Dem deutscher Mann - Den Mann den halt ich ehrenwert" by Johann Daniel Symanski from 1817. Er trinkt nicht einen Tropfen Wein,

Getrennt wünscht ich mir beider Glück
Nicht einen einz'gen Augenblick,
Doch das ging ich mit Freuden ein:
Bald Papst, bald Sultan möcht ich sein!

Drum Mädchen, gib mir einen Kuß,
Denn jetzt bin ich der Sultanus!
Drum traute Brüder, schenkt mir ein,
Damit ich auch der Papst kann sein!
