In this video you can enjoy the fun process of building Trumpeter Stalinetz tractor from start to finish.
In part one you can see how everything goes together, as well as minor aftermarket modifications made in order to make the kit shine a bit more than usual.
In part two, you can see the priming, painting and weathering this cute little model, showing you our favorite techniques of model building.
In part three, you will see the final touches and the finished tractor.
The kit is great Out of the Box, but still, with a minor effort you can make it a real show stopper. In the video, my wife is building the kit, which is her 3rd Stalinetz, and her 5th tractor. She enjoys building army tractors a lot, because of their nice looks and heavy weathering. You can see how she does her approach to scratch building, and the ideas that she have about improving her models.
A lot of people don't believe when they see her work, and that's why we decided to show everything in a video, so we can share that not only men are interested in this wonderful hobby.
The Trumpeter tractor is cheap but nice model and we highly recommend it to anyone interested in armor from the Second World War. The kit is a great start-up kit, as well as a base for advanced scratch building and aftermarket parts usage. There are resin upgrades, including engine, radiator, or even modification /Cat Sixty/ changes.
Stalinetz tractor is a licensed copy of Cat SIXTY. First model was S-60, direct copy of Cat Sixty, and later on, it was modified to S-65.
The Caterpillar Sixty was a 60 horsepower (45 kW) crawler tractor manufactured by the Caterpillar Tractor Company from 1925 until 1931. The Sixty was the largest tractor in Caterpillar's product line at that time.
The Caterpillar Sixty was originally introduced for sale beginning in 1919 as the C. L. Best 60 Tracklayer, manufactured by the C. L. Best Tractor Company. The Best 60 was the most successful tractor in the Best model line. After the 1925 merger of the C. L. Best Tractor Company and the Holt Manufacturing Company that formed the Caterpillar Tractor Company, the Best 60 was renamed the Caterpillar Sixty.
The Stalinetz S-65 was fitted a powerful Stalinetz M-17 18.5 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine delivering 65hp giving a top speed of just 6.95kmh. The Stalinetz S-65 was the most numerous of the Soviet tracked tractors of WWII with almost 38 000 produced at the Chelyabinskiy Tractornii Zavod plants between 1937 and 1941 before ChTZ switched to tank production.
With a combat weight more than 11t the Stalinetz S-65 was used to tow heavy ordinance most notably the B-4 203mm Howitzer and ML-20 152mm Howitzer-Gun as well as recovery tasks with many being captured and used by the German Army to tow a variety of loads.
It had a a maximum speed of 7 miles per hour (11 Km/H) and the Germans managed to get hold of thousands during the first year of the invasion of Russia in 1941. They were put into use as a means of recovery vehicle and pulling stuck vehicles from the heavy Russian mud during the fall period known as Rasputitsa, but more often - in their original role as artillery tractors pulling heavy German ordnance.
Kit used is Trumpeter 05539, equal to 05538, but with a cab. The cab is not used in this particular video. It is exchanged for a scratch build hood, which makes the model looks more attractive.
Both kits are wonderful, being 99% equal in parts.
Hope you like it!
