Some 16mm Kodachrome film of the SS France (1962-2007/8, GRT 52.6K). Perhaps one of the most beautiful ships ever made. Her winglet funnels make her instantly recognisable. Here we see her passing under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Sadly her ending was drawn out after lengthy legal disputes as to the safety of her asbestos components. I guess 2008 is a fair date to give for her scrapping at Gujarat in India.
A very long and graceful ship showing that once we did not fear the future...
This footage is from Christmas 1964.
