National BRAVE Day:
National BRAVE Day is celebrated on the last Friday of every September and this year the day will be observed on September 24. Every woman knows that sometimes all that she needs is just a small nudge of encouragement in the form of timely guidance from another woman. Yet other times call for coordinated, thoughtful efforts for women in need. The world moves forward when women empower women. National BRAVE Day honors women who lift each other up, rescue each other, fight for each other’s cause and make each other BRAVE. It is the day to celebrate the wise and strong women in your life.
National Cherries Jubilee Day:
National Cherries Jubilee Day on September 24 celebrates a very unique dessert that deserves more love! Cherries jubilee is a dish that involves cherries and liqueur, usually a brandy or Kirschwasser. Originally, the cherries were simply poached in a sugary syrup and served with warm brandy, which was set on fire for a dramatic presentation as it was served to guests. Modern recipes serve the cherries with ice cream, but the fire has remained a key part of this dish. Cherries jubilee was first served at one of the jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria and the popularity for the dessert skyrocketed during her reign. It was considered a highly fashionable dessert to offer one’s guests.
National Punctuation Day:
From the lowly comma to the flamboyant ampersand, National Punctuation Day on September 24 celebrates the punctuation that makes our words legible and gets our point across. “Let’s eat, Grandma!” or “Let’s eat Grandma!” — it’s clear that punctuation saves lives. Though you might not have consciously considered punctuation since elementary school, you likely use it every day. Every year, the creator of the holiday sets a punctuation challenge, and punctuation quizzes and games can be found all over the country.
Save The Koala Day:
Save The Koala Day is celebrated on September 24 every year. It is a part of the Save The Koala Month celebrations organized by the Australian Koala Foundation. The objective of these celebrations is simple — to save the koalas and their natural habitats, and raise awareness to prevent them from going extinct. Koalas are an important part of Australian wildlife. However, today they face the danger of disappearing due to human activities and the climate crisis. You can do your part to prevent the unthinkable from happening by raising funds and donating to organizations that are committed to caring for the koala population.
Sport Purple for Platelets Day:
Get involved in a great cause by celebrating Sport Purple for Platelets Day on September 24. This event, celebrated on the last Friday in September, supports those suffering from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a disease that causes excessive bleeding, bruising and fatigue due to low levels of platelets (cells that enable blood to clot). Unfortunately, there are many unknowns about ITP — what causes it, how to fully cure it — and many people haven’t even heard of it.
The Platelet Disorder Support Association (PDSA) sponsors this Sport Purple for Platelets Day.
World Bollywood Day:
On World Bollywood Day, September 24, it’s time to release your inner Shah Rukh Khan or Priyanka Chopra and celebrate this amazing dance style seen in movies that are loved not only in India but across the globe.
Bollywood is a famous dance-form used in Indian films and is revered throughout the desi world. A mixture of numerous styles including belly dancing, “kathak”, Indian folk, Western popular, and modern jazz, the dance moves go hand-in-hand with the commercial and artistic framework of the South Asian film world. Not to mention, at desi “shaadi’s” (weddings)!
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning:
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, celebrated on September 24 this year, is a day to not only enjoy one of the world’s favourite beverages but also make a difference by helping raise money for people facing cancer. Globally, cancer is the second-leading cause of death with 9.6 million people dying every year. However, around 3.7 million lives could be saved each year through early detection, prevention and treatment.
