This video is meant to illustrate a patient case I worked on a couple weeks ago. Usually, when preparing anterior crowns we are working with limited tooth structure due to broken down teeth, failing restorations or extensive caries. This typically requires a larger incisal reduction then ideal. One way to achieve appropriate axial wall height is to prepare the margins subgingivally w/out impinging on the biological width. This allows us to regain axial height & proper retention. Further, we are able to achieve high quality aesthetics with this design since the margins are masked under the gums & we have enough reduction to layer porcelain.
