Chicago Public Schools said it presented a balanced budget for the coming school year Thursday, despite the expiration of federal COVID-19 dollars, but significant funding issues may lay ahead if the district is unable to identify new financial streams.
The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence typically releases its annual report in October. But this year, the coalition is publishing its results earlier because of a disturbing increase in domestic violence deaths across Illinois.
Violence is a ongoing threat in Chicago's neighborhoods. So far this year, the Chicago Police Department reports 321 people have been killed.
