In response to questions by Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre during question period on Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted he's briefed on all threats to Canada, including potential Chinese election interference threats.
However, Trudeau said earlier he hasn’t received any information on federal election candidates who allegedly received funds from China in the 2019 federal election.
His response stems from a Global News report — which appeared on Nov. 7 — about an alleged Chinese interference effort that Canadian intelligence officials warned Trudeau about, beginning last January.
Poilievre probed Trudeau about whether he was aware of the specificity of the nature of the threats.
The question in the House of Commons came following Trudeau's recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Trudeau and Poilievre also sparred about affordability during question period, and again disagreed on the use of the carbon pricing scheme amid rising home heating costs and climate change.
