Black Duck Lagoon in Murrumba Downs is a man-made lagoon about 40 minutes’ drive north of Brisbane and hold a variety of wildlife & many bird species that call the lagoon and its surrounding bushland reserve home.
My plans for today was to do Dowses Lagoon at Sandgate and do a Photo-walk there, but when I got there and didn’t see many birds about, I drove back to Black Duck Lagoon. I started my Photo-Walk around 7.30am to a chilly 12 degrees, but pleased to hear and see so many birds about.
Black Duck Lagoon is separated by a road leading into the North Quarter Estate and most of the birds that I saw and photographed were in the Eastern section of the lagoon.
A walk around the lagoon takes about an hour and best times for wildlife is early morning as the lagoon faces north and the walk track is on the southern side of the lagoon, so in the afternoon you’ll have the sun facing you as you try and take photos of the wildlife.
