When polishing larger surfaces, normal planes leave behind small steps on the workpiece. If the plane is slightly rounded, however, each stroke gently glides into the next and the surface will appear perfectly smooth. A slightly more rounded plane will give a piece of furniture an interesting structure and that ‘special touch’.
