Are Electric Cars Really That Environmental Friendly? find out in this video
For most life on the earth, including and especially the life of humanity, climate change poses an exi
In May 2018, UN Secretary-General António Guterres made the statement. However, he is not alone. All of these significant organizations, including the IPCC, NASA, WWF, and CDP, concur that this phenomenon has a spin-off and is committed to preventing it.
It's difficult to dispute the scope of the issue we are battling, from the melting of sea ice and rising sea levels to the recurrence of catastrophic occurrences like storms, droughts, and intense heat waves. If the temperature rises by 2° Celsius, there will be more to come.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 14% of the 49 GT Co2 eq released into the atmosphere in 2010 came from transportation. This does not take into account the impact of related activities like the production of automobiles or the deterioration of road surfaces.
Since cars account for 72% of this sector's CO2 emissions (followed by airplanes, at 10%), the market for electric cars has been expanding and appears to be a viable option for addressing climate change. But is it accurate to say that EVs emit no emissions?
so, are electric cars greener than cars powered by fossil fuels?

Without further ado, let's get started with the topic.
The method of converting potential (stored) energy into kinetic (moving) energy is the key distinction between traditional, thermal cars and electric cars. This energy is stored chemically in thermal vehicles and released by a chemical reaction within the engine.
Electric cars, on the other hand, release their stored energy electrochemically rather than through combustion, due to lithium-ion batteries, even if they also have chemical energy storage. This indicates that no fuel is burnt during driving, negating the possibility of CO2 air pollution. Additionally, they are more efficient than traditional cars. Is the electric movement winning in spades as a result? Are electric vehicles and autos greener?
No, not always. Or, more accurately, not always. These cars' CO2 emissions will be far higher if they are not powered by solar cells, wind turbines, nuclear power, or even hydroelectricity.
For instance, it doesn't matter if cars don't emit pollution while they're being driven if the electricity used to charge them originates from burning fossil fuels because the pollution was previously emitted from a distant power plant.
As a result, if you drive an electric car in the US, where fossil fuels accounted for 62,7% of the nation's energy output in 2017, you'll likely emit more CO2 into the environment than if you drive one in Iceland, where the country runs virtually exclusively on hydro, geothermal, and solar energy.
It is anticipated that the EU grid mix will decrease from 300 gCO2 eq/km in 2015 to 200 gCO2 eq/km in 2030 and 80 gCO2 eq/km in 2050 for the UE28.
But suppose that all of the energy used to power automobiles is clean or renewable. Could we then claim that electric vehicles produce no emissions?
Are there no emissions during the production of electric vehicles? How Green Is the Procedure?
The process of constructing an automobile begins with the extraction, refinement, transportation, and manufacturing of raw materials into a variety of components that will be integrated to create the actual car. Both conventional and electric cars go through much the same procedure. However, the Union of Concerned Scientists claims that at the end of the manufacturing process, electric cars are the ones producing more carbon emissions.
Why is that so? Considering that enormous batteries, which have significant environmental costs, are used to store energy in electric cars; the larger the battery, the greater the range. This occurs because the rare earth elements (REE) used to make these batteries, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, or graphite, are only found in the Earth's crust and must be mined using highly polluting techniques. Because of this, the question of whether electric automobiles are greener or not has a clear answer.
According to the Chinese Society of Rare Earths, 75 tons of acid waste .
