I’m so excited to finally share this project! I’ve been slowly chipping away at it for months now and I’m relieved and proud to have actually completed it. It’s basically my culminating project of learning Blender over the last year or so. I’ve learned character modeling, rigging, environment creation, animation, fluid sims, lighting and light compositing and shading in Blender.
It’s really turned into somewhat of a monstrosity of a project though. It’s so easy to just keep expanding and expanding and expanding until you’re basically making a short film and now it’s taking 6 months lol. My main goal for the next project will be a quick execution and MUCH smaller scope but I learned quite a lot here so I can’t say I have many regrets.
My main focus for this project was storytelling, lighting, sound design and composition. There are several animation errors, particularly with her walk cycle. Her paws slide around quite a bit and poke through the landscape but at a certain point I just decided to ignore my perfectionist tendencies and move on. In many cases I see the errors but lack the technical skills to address them or I’m just over it and need to move on so I don’t get bored. Practice makes progress though and I think my next project will be much more polished.
