Lithotripsy or SWL is used for kidney stones of less than 2 cm in size either within the kidney or 1/3 of ureteric uses 1000-2000 shockwaves and target the stone by breaking it into many small parts which is than excreted in the urine. Pain, blood in urine or infections are common complications.
