Intel released the Intel ARC A380 GPU. The Intel ARC A380 is not perfect, however it does handle AV1 encoding and decoding which the competition currently does not and the next gen cards from the competition looks like they only support decoding the AV1 codec making Intel the clear winner for the price if you will be using for video editing.
In short, AMDs RX 5550 XT GPU is not the flashiest graphics card out there, but it offers a very reasonable amount of performance for someone looking to get into gaming at 1080p. AMDs series of GPUs has been criminally overlooked by a significant chunk of the gaming userbase, and XFXs RX 5500 XT Thicc II Pro is an excellent example of a card that should be far more popular than it is. AMDs recently launched top-tier cards from both Nvidia and AMD are virtually impossible to find, but you might be lucky with the entry-level Radeon RX 5500 XT.
For $150 to $200, you can theoretically find both Nvidias GeForce GTX 1650 Super-based card and AMDs Radeon RX 5500 XT, which deliver similarly robust 1080p gaming on lower or mid-level settings, at all but the most GPU-intensive games. The GTX 1650 Super or the Radeon RX 5500 XT are Nvidias and AMDs best cards, respectively, with the 8GB RX 5500 XT being perhaps the more future-proof choice. At time of writing, Nvidias GTX 980 and 980 Ti, as well as AMDs RX 480 8GB and R9 Fury X are all capable gaming GPUs, capable of handling most games on very high settings.
The GeForce GTX 1650 cannot match the AMD cards at this price, but is a competent, very capable chip for an energy-constrained, entry-level gaming rig. Nvidias RTX 30 series cards offer excellent gaming performance at 1440p, slightly more so than the RTX 3060 Ti, but at $479 and above, they are priced more in line with the RTX 3070, and this comparison does them no favors. A very competitive card, that comes this close to Nvidias new RTX 3080, and at nominal performance differences from the RTX 3080, this is really an enthusiast-grade card that is well worth considering for any PC gaming fan who has a 4K resolution on the radar.
If you are serious about pushing the limits of every graphics option, and want to game in 4K or 1440p, the GeForce RTX 3080 from Nvidia is the card to go -- for 1080p games, it is largely too much, although turning on every ray-tracing effect in games that support this functionality makes 1080p still a sensible option. Nvidias GeForce RTX 3050 is one of the few Nvidia graphics cards since the Ampere era that is anywhere near being considered a budget graphics card, and it is a strong choice for 1080p gaming for what it is. It is also packed with many features AMD cards just do not, such as Deep Learning-enabled Super Sampling (DLSS) and Tensor Cores, which are designed not only for playing games at a faster framerate, but for handling the kind of creative workloads even AMDs best graphics cards would trip up on.
Fortunately, there are graphics cards that would significantly aid performance on this type of system, but chances are, they would not be the RX 6000-series cards from AMD, nor RTX-3000-series cards from Nvidia. We are probably going to see RTX 3050 and RX 6500 cards over the next few months, which may drop down to the sub-$200 range for last-gen hardware. While you may think that based on this article, I am biased towards NVIDIA cards, the reality is, AMD cards look like they would be a better value at sub-$ 200. The advent of new generations of Radeon and GeForce GPUs instantly turned most high-end cards of before into terrible values, and prices are insane right now across graphics cards, but you do have a lot of options between the top-tier GPUs, should you ever get lucky enough to grab one.
