On May 26, 2010, the District of Columbia city council, approved a budget for 2011 containing significant cuts to social services. Prior to the vote on the budget, a bill was introduced that would have raised the income tax rate on those earning more than $350,000 annually. If this revenue-enhancing legislation had passed, funding to social service agencies could have been restored. But that was not to be. The legislation failed with a 5 to 7 vote. Councilmembers Graham, Thomas, Barry, Wells and Michael Brown voted for the bill. Coucilmembers, Mendelson, Cheh, Catania, Evans, Kwame Brown, Alexander and Gray voted against. This video is a letter to the city council hoping they'll reconsider.
