A survivor who has chosen to remain anonymous to protect their safety, shares what they saw and experienced on the deadly night of May 31, 2010, when Israel launched a brutal military assault on a civilian flotilla carrying aid to the besieged people of the Gaza Strip. It has been 14 years since the IOF pirated six vessels of the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla, opening fire at the humanitarians onboard. Several volunteer aid workers aboard the flagship Mavi Marmara were shot at close range, resulting in nine being killed instantly and one laying in a coma for four years before he died. Dozens were injured. Hundreds were taken hostage.
But that traumatic event is not enough to stop them, nor countless others, some of whom have rejoined our mission to break the siege on Gaza in 2024.
"We're just people who love life. Who want to love each other. Who want to help. And who can't stand seeing other people suffer. That's what we are."
