Today marks the anniversary of the tearing down of the Berlin wall in 1989. British Movietone reported on its controversial construction in 1961.
The Friedrichstrasse crossing-point is one of the places where East Berliners have been building yet another wall. It is an extension of the concrete wall, really, about 6 feet high and 3 feet thick. They left a small gap in it, near the American check-point "Charlie". Protests against all these new barriers have been made in vain.
