TOYOTA FT-86 II CONCEPT 2011 Toyota FT-86 II Concept Toyota has confirmed that the FT-86 II Concept will offer a close approximation of the production model it plans to launch sometime early in 2012. Jointly developed with Subaru -- which will be introducing a uniquely styled variant of its own at a slightly later date -- the FT-86 II Concept is expected to be powered by a Subaru-designed 2.0-liter four-cylinder "boxer" engine that drives its rear wheels. Expect the FT-86 to feature a combination of steel and aluminum for its structure and skin elements, have a base price in the $20,000-$25,000 range and quite possibly be badged as a Scion here in America.
Toyota claims the FT-86 II Concept "embodies the company's reborn passion for sports-car driving." As a spiritual successor to cars like the Celica, Supra and the original rear-drive AE86 Corolla for which it's named, we can only hope that passion gets transformed into pure lust when the finished product finally arrives in showrooms.
