Russia's invasion is 'genocide,' Zelensky says.
During an appearance on CBS's Face the Nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Russia's invasion of Ukraine "genocide."
Through a translation, Zelensky told interviewer Margaret Brennan, "Indeed, this is genocide." "The annihilation of the entire nation and people; we are Ukrainian citizens with over 100 nationalities."
"This is about the destruction and extermination of all these nationalities," he continued, "because we are citizens of Ukraine, and we do not want to be subjugated to Russian Federation policy, which is why we are being destroyed and exterminated, and this is happening in the twenty-first century Europe."
Due to the crimes he has experienced, Zelensky said that negotiating with Putin is tough for him on a "personal level," but that it is the only option to end the war.
