Our new online selling exhibition, Say it Loud (I’m Black and I’m Proud), celebrates young, emerging, and mid-career artists from across Africa and its diaspora.
In this video, we visit artist Accra Shepp, who looks to photograph people ‘at their most honest’.
As an artist in lockdown, Shepp discusses his approach to documenting protests for social justice and his most recent body of work, 'The COVID Journals'.
Portraiture involves a level of vulnerability from both the photographer and the subject. “The ability of the still to consolidate and condense a set of emotions, a set of conditions, in a very small area that you can look at continuously and be with…makes the still photograph so resonant”.
Say it Loud (I’m Black and I’m Proud). 31 July – 18 August, online.
