(10 Jul 1976) Italy's caretaker premier, Aldo Moro, and his Christian Democratic cabinet resigned for the second time in seventy days on Friday(9 July '76). At the Quirinale Palace in Rome Moro tendered his resignation to president Giovanni Leone. This opened the way for the formation of a new government that could give Italy's Communists a policy-making role for the first time in 29 years.
