Master stories and simple game interactions in Unreal Engine by building a walking simulator!
Walking simulators are a popular type of game focused on storytelling over the complicated mechanics found in many other genres. They offer developers unique opportunities to create emotional experiences, explore characters, focus on atmospheric levels, and more – all with easy-to-implement features perfect for any skill level.
In this course, you’ll construct a walking simulator featuring a first-person camera and a high-fidelity environment built using photoscanned 3D models. You’ll also explore creating a robust interaction system that can not only be applied to different kinds of objects, but quickly expanded to suit the story you want to tell.
No matter the project, these skills for building walking simulators will provide you with new ways to express yourself creatively and add interactions via the Blueprints Visual Scripting system.
This course assumes basic familiarity with Unreal Engine.
You will learn how to:
- Implement player movement for first-person
- Construct levels using Quixel models
- Craft and animate open-able doors
- Build toggleable text overlays for stories
- Create an interactable fire with light source
- Make interaction applicable to multiple objects
… and more!
