In this MWC 2021 demo, you’ll see why Qualcomm believes 5G will set the foundation for Industry 4.0 and the "factory of the future.”
Industry 4.0 focuses heavily on evolving industrial automation with real-time connectivity and analytics. 5G is a foundational technology for Industry 4.0 because it helps cut the wires for more observable and responsive industrial processes, while meeting demanding connectivity requirements.
Watch as Senior Staff Engineer Sam Kotla walks through Qualcomm's over-the-air testbed for ‘The Factory of the Future.’
Kotla demonstrates real-world industrial applications of 5G and explains each system component of a factory made wireless with 5G devices, from smart cameras (sensors that use onboard AI to classify objects) to controllers (PLCs) and actuators (like industrial robots and gates).
Kotla also highlights key over-the-air 5G capabilities, like advanced ultra-reliability, with coordinated multi-point transmissions, time-sensitive networking with a microsecond-level synchronization, and direct communications with 5G sidelink for boosting industrial IoT capacity.
The next industrial revolution is upon us, and the ability to deliver local and customized services with secure and reliable wireless connectivity is essential to this transformation. At Qualcomm, we’re inventing new 5G technologies, such as the use of 5G sidelinks for industrial applications, to deliver high-performance, industrial 5G private networks that will power this revolution.
