Kazakhstan will vote in a parliamentary election on Sunday. However, the run-up to the event has been quite low key, with no active campaigning opposing the incumbent president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The government has promised a more democratic parliament this time around, but the election commission recently banned genuine opposition politicians from running.
Many Kazakhstanis are satisfied that Nazarbayev has maintained decades of stability in the country.
However, last month's violent clashes that left 16 people dead have put pressure on his administration. Many hold Nazarbayev accountable for the deaths.
