We all know, that a pressure relief valves are installed on process equipment to release excess pressure due to operational upsets, external fires, and other hazards.
#Failure of pressure-relieving devices to function properly when needed could result in the #overpressure of the #vessels, #exchangers, #boilers, or other equipment they were installed to protect.
There are several types of pressure relief or #safetyvalves.

However when we expect high and variable back pressure conditions then pilot operated pressure relief valve or PO PRV is the best solution for these applications.
A pilot-operated pressure-relief valve consists of a major relieving device or main valve, which is combined with and controlled by a self-actuated auxiliary pressure-relief valve (pilot).
The pilot is a spring-loaded valve that operates when its inlet static pressure exceeds its set pressure.
This causes the main valve to open and close according to the pressure.
It is advisable to install block valves at upstream and downstream, to enable removal of the PO PRV from the equipment during operation.

Inspection of pressure-relief devices is therefore crucial and should determine the general physical and operating conditions of the devices and ensure that their performance meets the requirements for a given installation.
