The Nimrod Variations were written by Edward Elgar, who grew up not far from me actually (but some years before). He wrote the variations for his close friends with each variation depicting a different person in a sort of musical Cluedo, but without the weapons/rooms/victim or any other part of the game apart from the guessing who bit. "Nimrod" is the most famous variation and refers to August Jaeger, a publisher friend of Elgar's (Jäger means hunter and Nimrod was a Biblical hunter).
