On May 18th last, Delphi Lodge welcomed the Famine Walk for the first time since the original march took place in1849 during the Great Irish Famine. The annual Afri Famine walk commemorates an event when hundreds of starving people made the journey from Louisburgh to Delphi Lodge for aid but were met with bureaucracy and rejection.
The re-direction of the walk to honour the original route taken and the opening of the gates was a very respectful and symbolic gesture from the Delphi Lodge of today to pay homage to this solemn and tragic event in it's history. This TV clip documents how the day went.
