A powerful, long-lived thunderstorm complex producing widespread damaging wind gusts, called a derecho, swept from Iowa into northern Illinois on Monday, August 10th, 2020. The strongest winds blasted central and eastern portions of Iowa with 100-120 mph wind gusts. 80 to 100 mph winds and isolated brief tornadoes were common across northern Illinois.
