FCC Subject: Neighborhood node overloaded. Neighborhood often experiences wildly unstable latency[[[[[,lower than average speeds, and packet loss]]]]]
FCC Description:
“Neighborhood experiencing wildly unstable latency [[[[and whatever else you had in the subject line]]]] due to an overloaded node. Recently [[[[my ISP]]]] has been consistently providing significantly worse service to my neighborhood than they have been with other neighborhoods paying for the same service that have multiple service providers available. They’re taking advantage of being the only cable Internet service provider in my neighborhood and discriminating against it by refusing to make necessary accommodations. I’ve called multiple times about this issue and [[[[my ISP]]]]]] does not have any intention of fixing the problem. A node split will solve this issue. “
FCC follow up email:
I've attached a traceroute from Seattle pinging a server in Chicago. Notice how there's 0% packet loss in the first 3 hops and an average of 1ms delay on the second hop (modem to neighborhood node). It takes an average of 42 milliseconds to travel the entire distance from Seattle to Chicago which is about 2,063 miles.
((((((Depending on how bad your issue is))))))) At my current residence, it takes an average of [[[[[[[your average]]]]]]] milliseconds to traverse from my modem to my neighborhood node with anywhere from [[[[[[your percentage range]]]]]] packet loss. It is ridiculous that I'm seeing more latency [[[[[[[and/or packet loss if you have it]]]]]] from my home network to my neighborhood node than an entire traversal from Seattle to Chicago.
((((((((((((((((OR if your issue isn’t as bad)))))))))))))))))
At my current residence, I’m consistently seeing ping spikes to [[[[your highest ping spike number]]]] which is [[[[[x times more time]]]]] than an entire traversal from Seattle to Chicago on a healthy network [[[[[in addition to packet loss and/or lower than average speed if you’re experiencing that]]]]]]
(((((((((((((Attach to both email variants))))))))))))))))
The issue is solvable with a node-split. I've attached a screenshot of a traceroute from a neighborhood experiencing the same issue and a traceroute from that same neighborhood following a node split. [Your ISP] is providing good service to other neighborhoods paying for the same service and I expect the same service to be provided to my neighborhood.
