ZERELIA LAKES - HISTORY
- The area around the Zerelia lakes was inhabited at the beginning of the Middle Neolithic period (5800-5300 BC), so it is possible that the two settlements in Karatsandagli and Zerelia coexisted for a short period of time. Karatsandagli was then abandoned, while Zerelia continued to inhabited for the rest of the Neolithic period (5300-3200 BC) and the Bronze Age (3200/3000-1100 BC)
In Magoula Zerelia, a prehistoric citadel has been identified, contemporary with the settlements of Dimini and Sesklo.
- The Almyros basin, known as "Krokion Field" during antiquity. An important center of the area was the ancient "Halos", 10 km south of Almyros, along with the towns of Pelasgian Argos, Alope.
- Homer reports that the "iles" took part in the Argonautic campaign.
Her founder was the mythical king of Orhomenos Athamas, while in 1280 BC Peleas reigned with goddess Thetis, the parents of Achilles.
- The ancient "Halos", 10 km south of Almyros, near the "Kefalosis" site, was the Kingdom of the Homer Achilles hero and his Myrmones. So it seems that it has historically existed since the prehistoric Bronze Age.
- It is the continuation of the ancient "Ἅλου", as the root of the word from "ἅλς" shows, yen.
The "hello" of the Hellenistic Times was founded around 302 BC. By Dimitrios Poliorketis and surrounded by imposing fortification walls, reinforced with towers. The Greeks cut their own coins depicting the legend of the Kolchida trip. The city was abandoned in 265-260 BC, probably after a devastating earthquake.
