The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is a short story that seems simple enough, but there are many life lessons interwoven throughout. At the heart of the story is an old Cuban fisherman who never gives up. The old man lives a tough life of unending struggle with fate and chance. His life is hard, but he works hard, maintains his integrity and inner dignity, doesn't complain, doesn't make excuses, doesn't boast, and he never surrenders.
