Real time calligraphy recording of both a capital and a lowercase letter 'm' written in a variant of Engrosser's / Roundhand with 'Italian' style accents and styling on the capital.
Italian is a vague term in this context that was often used by practitioners to denote a script intended to be paired with a more commonly styled one. It rarely indicates one way or the other whether the origin of the script is/was actually Italy. As a consequence there are numerous historical scripts labeled as 'Italian' that seem to have little visual relationship to each other.
This was done using one of my hand carved ergonomic nib holders with a leonardt principal ef nib in Higgins eternal ink on lined Rhodia paper. I went pretty heavy on the shades for fun :D If I were using this script in a piece I'd probably lighten it up a bit unless it was going to be for a big, dramatic title of some sort.
Music playing while I was writing is from Missing Vwls.
I'll be doing videos of the whole alphabet in this style. You can check out the playlist for them all here: [ Ссылка ]
