This is an excerpt from p58 of Thomas Dolby's debut novel 'Prevailing Wind.' Set in 1913, the book tracks the adventures of two young brothers from the impoverished lobster community of Deer Isle, Maine, who snatch at a chance to escape to New York on the race crew of a millionaire's luxury sailing yacht.
In this scene from early in the book, the brothers have just helped an Irish maid get out of a bad fix, and they are rowing her across the Harbor in a small skiff.
