Three Day Cross-wales cycle ride on Enduro bikes.
Rachel and Graham ride the trail across the Cambrian Mountains – the oldest mountain range in Europe – climbing around 12,000 feet (3,700 m), over hills and moorland through one of the most sparsely populated parts of Wales. We rode grassy hills, rocky singletrack, ancient ridge roads, forest tracks and river fords.
The Trans-Cambrian Way snakes its way across the heart of Wales, covering around 100 miles (160 km) from Knighton, on the English border to Dovey Junction at the top of the estuary with the Irish Sea. We extended the ride to finish at the coast on Ynyslas beach at the estuary mouth, adding approximately 10 miles of single track, forest roads and coast road to the ride. Because if the extra riding we had planned to spread the ride out over 4 days, but this didn’t go to plan.
I completed the route on my Kona Process 153 and Graham rode his Giant Trance Advanced 1.
To save luggage we stopped at bed and breakfasts along the route: In Rhayader at the end of day 1 there are several options and we stopped at The Bear. Being unable to get accommodation bear Ysbyth Ysywyth we had to amend the day 2 route to press on to Llangurig and the Black Lion Hotel, with the final day covering over 40miles and descending down to the beach.
