(9 Mar 2019) Marches and protests were held Friday across the Latin American countries to mark International Women's Day.
The day, sponsored by the United Nations since 1975, celebrates women's achievements and aims to further their rights.
Millions around the world demanded equality amid a persistent salary gap, violence and widespread inequality.
Women in Argentina were galvanized to take to the streets after a bill that would have legalized abortion was rejected last year.
They marched from Congress to the country's historic Plaza de Mayo square, during which they protested against violence.
Rallies against violence against women in Argentina, held under the slogan "Not One Less," have drawn multitudes in the past.
Eliana Veron from the State Workers Union said Women's Day is a very meaningful day for Argentines.
"In Argentina, March 8th symbolizes a day of fighting," Veron said.
"It's not a celebration, it's a commemoration," she added.
