Sadly, there have been many stars since the introduction of television that have received roles on notable series only to have those roles cut short as a result of tragic deaths.

Some of the many 1950s actors who died during the production of their TV shows include Richard Hart, Barton Yarborough, Charles King, and George Reeves. Richard Hart was the first star to ever portray the character of Ellery Queen but sadly passed away while doing so. Barton Yarborough was one of the stars of the radio show Dragnet and was subsequently invited to reprise his role on the series’ television adaptation. After filming only two episodes of the series, Barton died.
Charles King started acting when he was only a teenager, with him notably having made a small appearance in the classic 1915 silent film The Birth of a Nation. Charles King went on to become a reliable player in Westerns, with him being in the middle of a gig as a background player on the series Gunsmoke at the time of his death. George Reeves was the actor tasked with playing the titular character on 1952’s Adventures of Superman before tragically deciding to commit suicide.
