Gloria Stuart, who died in 2010 at the age of 100, was one of Hollywood's first true superstars. She was also one of its most fascinating and complex personalities.
A former model and bit-player in films like "The Invisible Man" (1933), Stuart rocketed to fame in the 1930s with starring roles in such classics as "The Three Musketeers" (1935) and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940). But she was more than just a pretty face; she was also a talented singer, dancer, and artist.
Stuart was also a free spirit who didn't always play by Hollywood's rules. She was famously fired from the set of "Gone with the Wind" (1939) for refusing to conform to studio demands, and she later spoke out against the industry's treatment of women.
After a decade in the spotlight, Stuart left Hollywood behind in the early 1940s to focus on her family and her painting. She made only sporadic film and television appearances over the next few decades, but she made a triumphant return to the big screen in 1997 with her Oscar-nominated performance in "Titanic."
Here are some rare and fascinating photos of Gloria Stuart, along with some unique facts about her life and career.
