While William Grant Still once belonged to that class of American composer sometimes referred to as the "Forgotten Generation," his music has in the last two decades enjoyed a wide renaissance with all of his symphonies, dozens of other orchestral works, chamber works, instrumental works and songs achieving recorded status and available to the American music-loving public. His works were played during his lifetime in concert halls around America, and while this offering "In Memorium" is performed here soon after its completion, this is not likely the premier performance. While a newer recording of the work is uploaded elsewhere on YouTube, this performance was likely overseen by the composer himself.
