Dr. Gregory Dumanian is the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and Stuteville Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at the Curtis Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He has worked at Northwestern Memorial Hospital since 1996 during which he has become known for his contributions to abdominal wall reconstruction, development of mesh suture, and pioneering work in Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR). Dr. Dumanian created the TMR procedure in 2001 for improved prosthetic control of a bilateral shoulder disarticulation patient, and has gone on to revolutionize the management of neuroma pain in both amputee and non-amputee patients.
