The AIRBNB Story
In 2008, Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia started Airbnb by renting out three air mattresses in their living room. They came up with this idea due to a major conference in their city that led to all hotels being fully booked.
Their initial effort attracted three guests, but earnings were minimal.
To raise funds, they sold limited edition breakfast cereal boxes featuring 2008 US Presidential Election candidates, Obama and John McCain, raising $30,000.
Paul Graham, the president of Y Combinator, noticed their determination and funded them with $20,000.
Today, Airbnb is a global phenomenon.
