The FABER test (which stands for flexion, abduction, and external rotation of the hip) is a pretty simple way to assess for joint line pain and tenderness when trying to detect a meniscus tear.
I often use the test when I suspect a medial meniscus tear. If the person is tender to joint line palpation, putting them into the FABER position could increase the sensitivity.
This study does not have specific studies looking at it's efficacy, but is an easy adjunct to perform as part of your series of special tests for the meniscus when perform your knee clinical exam.
