Vanguard ETFs and iShares ETFs are incredibly popular amongst investors. Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) and iShares have the same cost to the investor (expense ratio) and track the same index so they should give investors the same returns.

Other ETFs from Vanguard and iShares cannot be compared so easily because they will hold different investments and so have different returns, so as an investor you should see which fund fits your investment goals and risk profiles before choosing.
Expense ratios for these ETFs are important when looking at index trackers, but less so when the fund portfolios aren't the same, then it's really about the total returns of the ETFs.
