I took it upon myself to enter the arena and complete the 30 Day Murph Challenge. Meaning that for 30 consecutive days, I completed the Murph workout. The CrossFit Murph Hero workout itself consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another one-mile run, all done consecutively.
This adds up to a grant total of 60 miles, 3000 pull-ups, 6000 push-ups and 9000 squats.
In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.
This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it "Body Armor". From here on it will be referred to as "Murph" in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.
My purpose for doing this was to essentially test myself. I feel like I am constantly falling short of my own potential. I allow my surrounding circumstances to dictate my choices and thoughts. The grind gave me the opportunity to push through walls and get to know myself on a more intimate level. I was forced into self talk that I often avoid.
