Tilt-Up concrete construction trims costs and accelerates project timelines while resulting in sturdy structures that last. It works like this: Building designs include specs for steel-reinforced forms matching the dimensions of a building’s walls. The forms are laid horizontally on the building foundation. Concrete is then poured into those forms. After a few days of curing, the forms are removed and the reinforced concrete panels are tilted up into place, forming the building’s walls.
Owners choose Tilt-Up because it relies on readily available ready-mix concrete and rebar. Also, construction is faster and requires fewer workers. Finally, the method can be executed in phases, allowing interior construction crews to get a head start on one end of a building while the other end is still in progress.
In the video, Project Superintendent Gary Horstmann explains the method with footage of a recent healthcare facility expansion.
