Eyüp is said to be the most religious and spiritual place in Istanbul because of Eyüp Sultan Mosque/Eyüp Sultan Camii. The reason for this is because at the Mosque is the Tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Eyüp Ensari in Turkish). Muslims come from all over Turkey, and the world, to see his Tomb because he was close with Prophet Muhammad (pbhuh), in fact, he was his host when the Prophet (pbuh) first arrived in Medina after the Hijra.
Inside the Eyüp Sultan Mosque there are artefacts that are said to be from the Prophet (pbuh) like bundles of beard and a leaf of a tree he planted.
More things to do in Eyüp include going on an Eyüp walking tour around the area, shopping in Eyüp because the prices are much lower than other areas of Istanbul and finally, talking the Eyüp Cable Car up to the viewpoint to where Pierre Loti Cafe is.
