Reference Number: 5296G-001
The Patek Philippe Calatrava 5296G is an automatic winding, white gold watch. This is a large dress watch but not a large watch at 38mm. This sizing puts it in the upper range of the Patek Philippe sizing. It is quite thin at 8.5mm with a sloped bezel and the tendency to sit into the wrist. From lug to lug the watch is compact at 46mm. The watch has a flat stance on the wrist.
The watch does have traditional straight spring bars, allowing you to pull the strap down around the wrist. Another feature of the spring bars is the Patek Philippe pull tab feature which allows for quick changing of the strap. This means you don't need a jeweler or jeweler's tools which can in turn damage the lugs.
The profile of the watch is very much steeped in Patek Philippe history with the multiple sector dial. The case is also more complex than you might first notice. There are beautiful compound curves with the lugs and steps between the case and bezel.
The highlight of the dial are the sector circles matched with a beautiful print on silver with blue hands at center and a traditional seconds track. This is an incredibly handsome watch that doesn't need size, gems or flourish.
The watch features a quick set date function on the dial. Through the exibition caseback you can see the caliber 324SC. The watch was built before mid-2009 before Patek Philippe switched to the Patek seal. As you can see, this movement is stamped with the Geneva Seal. There is a gyromax style balance which adds shock resistance to the watch.
