Hey, it's me. Hannah.
Aelin Galathynius had raised an army, not just to challenge Morath but to rattle the stars. This weekend, I am beyond excited to be collaborating with a number of creatives, to bring to life a short film that has been inspired by the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, written and to be produced by my good friend Cel, or @coppercosmonaut here on YouTube. I have the honor of portraying Aedion Ashryver, the Wolf of the North and cousin to the Queen of Terrasen and a member of her court.
Warning, stop now, this video might contain spoilers. So if you haven't read the Throne of Glass series, go read them. Stop what you're doing. Go read them and then come back once you've finished. I love this series. So when I was asked to take on the role of Aedion, I immediately said yes. So I've kind of cobbled together some more masculine looking ren faire attire to get a basic outfit together. And I was honored to be gifted with a faux fur winter wolf mantel from Folk of the Wood (I'll link to it down below) for this project. And what I need now is a cloak. After all of the hard work and just energy expenditure I put into the Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday cosplay. I thought a nice easy cloak would be a good follow up project. How hard can it be right?
So Cel sent me some fabric that they are using for other cloaks for the project. And the fabric store didn't send the correct amount of fabric. I think we lost a whole yard in there. So what I'm going to try and do is essentially just make a rectangular cloak with pleating at the top to kind of cinch it around my shoulders. Now, I do have clasps coming in the mail, hopefully today, that I'll be able to use to connect the two pieces. They’re little wolf heads. I think that that's just very on theme and a nice detail for the Wolf of the North for Aedion Ashryver. I haven't yet received the mantle, otherwise I would probably try to connect this directly to it. But since I don't have it, I'm just. I don't own a cloak. So this seemed like the right time to do a kind of generic, hoodless cloak project.
For now, I'm going to kind of just feel it out and see like how many pleats I want to do, and then we'll do some math and even out the pleats on both sides, make sure it's going to look nice.
Something like that. I've got one, two, three, four, five, six pleats. They're not uniform right now, so I might try and even that out a little bit more. There's something about the pleated look, specifically that feels a touch effeminate, which normally I'd be way down for, but since I'm trying to portray a male character, having a little bit more of a masculine look might be preferable, but I'm going to play this out. I have the fabric. I want to see where this takes me. It is nice that it kind of angles the cloak opening out a little bit so that we are able to see the details of the costume underneath the yeah, let's play this out. Let's see how it goes. Once I've even got the pleats, I will probably stay stitch the pleats in place just to make sure I can put it on and test it, make sure I like it, and then I guess we'll figure it out from there. All right. Okay.
I mean, come on. that's a perfectly good cloak. It does go almost to the floor. My mental portrayal of Aedion he is somebody who wants to stay warm when it's time to stay warm...
